Are all the immersion paint strippers heated?

No, some can be used at room temperature, such as Socostrip A4512 and Comorcap T4551.
Kemstrip 600 and Socostrip A4554 are both heated.

 

Why is there an oil seal floating on the surface of a heated immersion paint stripper?

The oil seal prevents the solvent in the product from evaporating out of the tank.

 

Do I need to use the entire drum of a heated immersion paint stripper?

Yes, the entire drum must be emptied to generate the proper oil seal on the surface of the tank.

 

Can the oil seal be purchased separately?

Yes, OIS 96.

 

What environmental controls are important around the strip tank?

The water rinse process following the heated strip tank should have sufficient distance to avoid water contamination in the strip tank. Water can cause corrosion on magnesium alloy parts.

 

How far into the tank should the parts go?

There should be a minimum of 8 inches clearance from the bottom of the tank. Paint flakes accumulate in the bottom of the tank and contacting them has an impact on strip efficiency.

 

Where should the heating coils be positioned in the tank?

In the sides, not the bottom. The paint flakes will cover coils on the bottom and have a negative impact on efficiency.

 

Should I use a heated or non-heated paint removal product?

Non-heated is typically used in manufacturing environments where safety is a major concern. Heated products are significantly more efficient.

 

How often do I need to change the product in my strip tank?

You can use the tank until it stops working. Typically, degradation will happen slowly over time, and then very quickly.
